How to Make Positive Changes in Your Life

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

What do we do now? Amid this crisis, we are all wondering how to cope with the changes that have accompanied it. Change is never easy. It is made harder when they are forced upon you. Every day I hear from people who have lost their jobs and from parents who don’t know how to work full time from home while also attending to their children. How do we cope with this level of upheaval? One option is to put our heads down and plow through it. This method will get the job done, but it doesn’t do anything to help our stress or our mindset. I challenge everyone reading this to find some way to grow from this experience. It’s hard to think that anyone will thrive during these times, but I believe growth is always possible.

You CAN grow from this!

To cope with working full time while also homeschooling my daughters, I realized I needed to find a new way to focus on my self-care. Yoga has always been my go-to for exercise and relaxation, but when the studio was forced to close my primary source of self-care went away. I could do it at home, but it doesn’t have the same effect. I needed to find small ways to be mindful and stay sane.

Here are three things you can try in your home.

First, try to get out of bed at least an hour before the kids do. That way you are guaranteed some quiet time.

Second, drop some essential oils in your shower for some aromatherapy.

Third, don’t just sniff those fragrances, really breathe it in. Close your eyes, feel your hands come together in prayer pose, and feel your feet connecting with the floor. Take five deep breaths and spend thirty seconds blocking out the rest of the world. Trust me, something as simple as breathing makes a dramatic difference.

Behaviors will change.

During these extraordinary times, our behaviors will change, priorities will change, and consumer behavior will change. Will your changes lift you up or hold you down? Now is the time to make a plan. Make positive changes personally and financially to promote growth during a time that feels disastrous.
